Refuses to comply with customer requests. Ripoff

I am desperately looking for help on this issue on behalf of my wife. A credit account showed on her credit report while we were applying for financing on our first home.

The account showed to have been opened in 2000 with more than a $400 balance. She did not remember opening the account and simply called customer service to ask about the account and related charges.

The balance was promptly requested from her, which she understandably did not want to pay over the phone with no info, and then she was given the address to mail inquiries. She immediately typed a letter requesting an application for credit signed by her and an itemized statement. Four weeks have passed without feedback.

My wife and I contacted Capital One 6 different times last night and was transferred to a message service.

To date, no one has helped us with this matter, and our home purchase in in limbo over $400.00. Customer service has implied to her that she is being dishonest and is trying to get out of paying it. This has upset myself terrible and has angered me even more for the way customer service has treated her.

If Capital One monitors this website and wishes to help, please contact me as soon as possible. Keep in mind that we do not want to get out of paying this, we simply want verification of this account and to know what we are paying. We will gladly pay within 24 hours of our request for information being granted.

We have recently reported this incident to Utah BBB and FTC, with no word received yet. It would be ridiculous for a customer to have to take any further action regarding such a simple request.
