Tried to get more money Ripoff

Business & Finance

In late May I receive a call from Ms. Johnson stating that they had a collection account from one of my credit cards that needed to be paid. The account owed was accurate.

Ms. Johnson informed me I had until the end of the month to pay the balance. This gave me less than a week to come up with almost $900.00. When I asked her why I hadn't received a letter validating this account yet with them she stated that they had sent one. I informed her I had not received one.

She threw out the whole "You will be sued it we don't collect this money" bit and I told her there was no way I could come up with that much in less than a week. After much hesitation she offered a settlement of 30% off. I told her I agreed but would have to pay it in two different installments.

She said since the letter that was sent was dated at the beginning of the month I had till the end to pay my first payment. I told her I needed another letter sent and she said ok. We agreed on terms on the settlement.

About four days later I received the "original" letter they supposedly sent me, dated May 18th, not May 1st. But it had not been postmarked until the day before I spoke to Ms. Johnson, which was a week later than the date on the letter.

I made my two payments via Western Union. Two weeks ago I started receiving calls from them again. I ignored their calls because I knew I had paid the amount.

Just yesterday I had someone call me at work to inform me I still have another payment to make. I told him no I didn't, that I had arranged two payments and that was it. He got an attitude asking "Haven't you been getting my messages?" I told him yes but I wasn't concerned because I knew I had paid them.

I explained everything that Ms. Johnson and I had agreed on and he claimed that nobody named Ms. Johnson worked there.

I told him I was not going to pay and that I needed a letter sent to me stating that this account was paid in full. Since I didn't have that original letter with me at the time he told me to call him back tomorrow once I had it with me.

When I called back I informed this other guy that those were not the terms I agreed to and that if it was set up for me to make three payments instead of two I would be paying them more than the original amount before the settlement. The guy was quick to say that Ms. Johnson didn't close the account right and all he needed from me was my current address so they could send me the letter stating that my account was paid in full.

I will wait and see if I get the letter, but I got them recorded stating that it was their error not mine.
