Intimidates and uses scare tactics to get Postdated Checks!

Attempted settlement proceedings with company. Company sent first letter detailing collection account. All phone numbers on letter are disconnected.

Contact by phone was very civil... At first. It took two months to get settlement a letter from the company and I received phone calls each week asking for a payment when settlement letter had not been received - I think I gave them my fax number atleast five times).

Once settlement letter was received (10 pmts @ agreed amount), I was pressured, coerced and brow beaten until I consented to give my account information and authorization for three post dated checks in order to "secure" my settlement. I was told that settlement could not be guaranteed without payments.

Nothing in settlement letter states that settlment was contingent upon their receipt of my post dated checks. I was yelled at, told that I had verbally agreed to send 10 postdated checks, which was a lie. When I spoke to manager, treatment was no better.

Manager refused to give me her last name and told me that, if the settlement had been up to her - she never would have agreed to a 10 month payment term. When I checked my settlement letter that was faxed to my office, it has her first name on it - coincidence or stupidity? After a 30 minute conversation I felt like I had been abused!

Demanding post dated checks should be against the law! And then - they have the audacity to charge ME $7.50 to process each of my payments!

I checked a website for collectors before I found this website (Link deleted - see below, I think it was) and it just made me more angry. They gloat about treating people like crap and pat each other on back for being A$es. No one who is honestly trying to clear a blemish on their credit report deserves to be treated like this!

I have reported their conduct to BBB, Texas Attorney General, and Federal Trade commission. I don't know if it will help - but it has been therapeutic to get this off of my chest.

Does anyone know if there is any way to pay a collection agency without having to send postdated checks or using Western Union? I don't want to pay anyone else to process my payments!
