Chase Bank
Ripoff Charges accrued while exiled due to Katrina

Chase Bank is exhibiting the classic run-around to "small" clients. My daughter overcharged her checking account but could not attend to it because the branch her account was based was also flooded and has not since reopened. This is her first checking account (she is only 17) and did not know how to remedy the situation. She is a freshman in college (in Houston) while I have returned to the New Orleans area. The bank put her account into collection in March (I have recently found out by surprise when a notice was sent to my new address). We still have not received all of our mail to the old, flooded address. I am ready to pay what is legitimately owed by my daughter but the collection agency cannot (or will not) divulge how much of the amount is added-on fees. They offered a settlement amount but threaten that this will not remove my daughter from being flagged in the Chex system and will prevent her from opening a checking account in the future. I guess the Katrina experience no longer resonates with people like those I spoke with in the Chase organization. That's what happens when a local institution is taken over by a giant like Chase.
