American Income - Connecticut Office
Job interview deception, mislead job opening position on telephone Ripoff

Business & Finance

On April 19, someone from American Income - Middletown, CT office contacted me by telephone. They indictated they got my resume from Monster.com and was interested in speaking with me about a middle management position in training.

I explicitly asked the woman on the telephone who called me, "Is this a sales position" and she said "NO". She said it was a training position of union members and did NOT involve sales and I would work out of the office. I tolde her, if it was a sales position, I did not want to waste anyone's time (especially mine) interviewing for a sale position. She assurred that the position was NOT a sales position.

I drive 45 minutes to this interview, only to find "standing room only" in the waiting room for people who were also called in for an interview (This should have been my 2nd clue - ignoring the posts on this website was my 1st clue). I ingored these comments and went to this job interview with an open mind.

I show up, they take my name and a copy of my resume and ask me to sit down, which I could not since the 10 chairs available were already taken. So I had to stand along with the other 6 people who were standing.

I end up being interviewed by a different person than they said I would. I think they had 3 or 4 people interviewing people. A woman began the first interview with me.

She said they would be do a two-phase interview. The first phase was to see where "I" might fit in. I immediately pointed out that I was responding to a specific position which this woman seemed to know NOTHING about. I explained what I was told over the telephone and she said she knew nothing about the phone call.

She left and got another woman, VP Operations who asked me what my problem was. I told her, I felt I was deceived about the job interview. She said, "We do not deceive anyone and she trains her staff to specifically mention this is a "sales position" when they call people.

I told her at NO TIME did anyone state this was a sales position. She then said, it was my word against her and implied I was lying. This now insulted me. I told he I was NOT interested in the job if this is a sales position selling insurance. I also said, I specifically asked if this was a sales position and the woman I spoke to said "NO".

She again stated "her" people do not tell people that. I showed her my notes and she said I must be wrong and unless I had the specific name of the woman I spoke to she could not verify it.

Practices like this where companies such as American Income "pluck" resumes from Monster.com and mass interview people for insurance sales jobs.

I find this VERY, VERY, unprofessional and a deceptive business practice. I would approach any phone calles from this company to give you an interview with extreme caution.
