Ripoff Dishonest business practice misleading extreme intent to mislead and hidden terms

Business & Finance

I also fell for the ad on the radio, because it was on a respected political talk station in my area. The ad said to call for the "free kit."

I went to the website and entered my info, only to find out that "free" really meant "$3.95 for S&H." OK, not so big a deal, right?

Well, 2 days later I get a package in the mail. I am very impressed. A nice book, a CD, and an 8CD box set, plus various flyers and loose papers. Not bad for $3.95, right?

So I remember a couple of years ago when I got scammed by another company and then read about it on usacomplaints.com. I swore I would never order anything again without resarching it first. But hey, this was a commercial on a respected talk radio station, no need to worry...

I continue to read several reports about how this guy ripped people off for $99.90 for the CD set, so I look at the website again. I find that it does subtly mention this $99.90. On the first page, at the bottom, after all the talk about the free kit and the amazing money potential, it says "ACT NOW
We Will Include A Bonus FREE
30-Day Aggressive Wealth Trial"

On the next page is a summary of your order. It talks about your "worry free guarantee" because if you are not satisfied, they will refund your $3.95 S&H (wait, that's not free...)

You then enter your credit card info, and below that you click "Enter" to confirm the process. Here's the fun part, after looking at it with more suspicion, I find that in small print (about font 5), if you scroll down PAST the "Enter" button, it says the following:

How it works, "I am so confident that you will become a loyal user of my products that I am giving you my best selling book, "I GOT HERE. YOU CAN TOO!" And my "Making Money" CD for FREE. You just help by paying a small refundable shipping and handling fee. That's an incredible value for these fine products. I have helped thousands of people and businesses achieve their financial goals and I am so convinced that I can help you, I am giving you two of my fine products for free."

So I call the company and tell them I do not want this crap, because the advertisement was misleading. He said he understands and then proceeds to give me a scripted offer to reduce the $99.90 to $74.90 "to keep their customers."

I say no way, and he then follows the script and reduces it to $49.90. I say no, and he puts me on hold and then gives me a return confirmation number. He then wants to know why I do not want the product, and I tell him I think it is bad business the way they present the package. We get into a bit of an argument about whether or not the policy is "Clearly stated several times on the website" or not.

He then follows the script further and offers to reduce it to $24.90. I still say no, and he acts like he is about to let me go and follows the script to tell me about how and where to return the package.

Finally, he wants to say one more thing before we go. He has been authorized to let me keep the package for a one-time payment of $14.90, with nothing to buy ever and no other charges.

UNFORTUNATELY, my curiosity anf gullability win over and I say yes, but I am not happy about the way this was handled. He then asks me if I am satisified with my service. What a joke! I tell him I am glad I got it for $14.90 but I still think the business practices and advertisements are shady. He said he understands that I feel that way and then we hang up.

Judge for yourself if this is good business.
