Berman Investment Group
Ripoff, deceptive practice, purposely misleading sales strategy

Education & Science

Search this site (usacomplaints.com) and you will see numerous complaints similar to mine. Apparently it is common practice for Berman Investment Group to make a deceptive free book offer and coax you into providing your credit card for a $3.95 shipping and handling charge. 30 days later your credit card is suddenly billed for $99.90. I had NO idea I would get charge anything more that $3.95 shipping till I saw the charge on my next CC statement. I disputed it with my credit card company not even knowing at first what it was for. When my CC company contacted me back they said it was for a book & CD offer I ordered and said since I had not returned the items yet they could not give me credit back till I did. They sent me copies of the order paperwork Berman had sent them and that is the first time I saw burried in the fine print on a completely seperate page (that you don't even see when you order) that after 30 days you get billed for CD's that you never even asked for in the first place!

Additionally I had never even opened the book or CD package yet and when searching through the shipment there was no invoice or sales order paperwork even enclosed in the package from them. No where in or on the package, or on the website is there a return address? I finally called them and talked to someone who barely spoke understandable english. The Berman rep kept insisting that they would give me a return address and accept the package back ONLY IF I called my CC company first and removed the dispute! I said I would as long as I got my money back but I needed the return address. The Berman rep kept refusing to give me the address till I called my cc company first and removed the dispute. It finally got to the point where I said, "ARE YOU REFUSING TO GIVE ME YOUR RETURN ADDRESS? I HAVE ASKED YOU 6 TIMES AND YOU WILL NOT GIVE IT TO ME." Finally I was refered to a "supervisor" who gave me the same speech about removing the dispute first, but seeing how agitated I was already finally gave me the address.

If you look on the order page there is no mention of being charged $99.90 after 30days. None what-so-ever. At the bottom margin of the page in tiny print there is a link that says returns. WHen you click on it it is there in the fine print that you will get billed $99 for CD's after 30 days, but there is still no return address listed anywhere. Hmmm kind of odd?

This Berman scam is a rip off. Extremely deceptive. They say 30 day money back guaurantee but most like me) won't even know about a charge till 30 days later when you see it on your next billing statement! No matter what an Berman rebuttal says it does not explain why thier sales practice is so deceptive that it leads to such a high volume of complaints. They know exactly what they are doing and it is a scam.

These guys should be investigated. Very shady operation! Beware.
