Ripoff Fraudulent billing from paid debt 23 years old

Merchants Credit Guide Co. Of Chicago has twice sent me bills for $4000. As far as I can decifer this, they picked up a $1000 credit card bill from 1979. This bill was waived or reduced when I paid it off using Consumer Credit Counselling Services here in Boston.ccCS does not retain their records more than 20 years, nor do I. I am debt free, and have excellent credit rating scores. Because I do not have paper proof of this, the MCGC representative on the phone became very nasty and said to me "Then I will put you down as refusing to pay". When I checked my credit rating bureaus, I could see that MCGC had indeed looked into my account in Dec. 2005.
