Ripoff dishonest, fraudulent collection proceedings

On July 22 my wife Debbie recieved a letter from NCO Financial Systems demanding payment of $26,114.31 for payment in full on her Chase Providian Card. This would have been acceptable if she owed the money and had a Chase Providian card, however she does not now, nor has she ever had an account with Chase.

I called NCO the following day to ask for an explanation and was informed this debt originated in 1991 and quite possibly did not originate with Chase. The gentleman I spoke with did not know where the debt originated. We checked our financial records, credit report etc. And confirmed a Chase Providian card was never issued to Debbie or myself. Perhaps someone owes Chase this money, but it certainly is not us.

After checking the internet for information on NCO I found they had several complaints lodged against them and had paid a fine last year for fraudulent collection practices. I also discoverd this web site and read the reports from others who shared this same experience. I also learned a little about the Statute of Limitation Laws for our state, fair credit reporting practices and fair debt collection practices. Then I decided to write to NCO.

Our letter went out on July 27th so we do not have a response yet, but suffice it to say it was not a kind letter. If anyone would like to get a copy of what we wrote, please write a rebuttal with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

We would like to take whatever action is necessary to put this group out of business. There actions are entirely unconscionable and I'm sure there's many people (particulrly the elderly) that may not have known how to respond when faced with this situation. Fortunately we were able to discover this information via the internet.
