Ripoff double billing

I stopped using my spint cell phone and sprint sent bills and like an idiot i let it go. I guess they were supposed to give my account to a collection agency.instead they gave it to nco financial. Somehow my bill stayed with sprint and at the same time stayed with nco. I payed off the bill with sprint but i still owe nco for some reason. Why is this? Can someone please help me this is really hurting my credit.
