Ripoff lease terms expensive termination fee

A word to the wise: leasing Avaya phone equipment you may get stuck with very poor terms and an expensive termination or buyout as your only options should your business needs change.

Financing is actually through CIT, who could care less about retaining your business and are unwilling to budge (they are entirely unreasonable).

It is actually less costly for us to put the phone system in a box for 2 years and pay off the lease in 24 monthly payments than it would be to return the equipment tomorrow. An Avaya agent may be able to obtain a more favorable termination, but in our case is more interested in rolling upgrades or a new system into the existing lease (with the high interest rates of 3 years ago).

I'm not even trying to get a break in cost, just want to get rid of this dog of a phone system for the lump sum of our remaining payments instead of continuing a false relationship with these unpleasent folks for another 2 years. Because they insist on penalizing us, the old system will sit and collect dust for two years before we send it back (while the money we would have paid collects interest in our account).

And for the sake of just over $200, Avaya has lost our business for our new phone system.
