Trying scam to rip us off! Ripoff!

I received a pre-recorded message by telephone yesterday Jan. 25 telling us to call a toll free number and that this was not a sales call. I called the number and they asked to speak to my husband. I asked them what it was about and they told me they would only talk to him. I had my husband call when he got home and they told him we owed $63 for a Sprint cell phone bill from 1996.

We have never had Sprint service, cell, home or otherwise. They would't supply us with any account information other then having my husbands name and MY Social Security number. They had us living somewhere we didn't live in 1996. They got very rude when we denied ever having Sprint and hung up on him after my husband tried to defend our credibility.

I then called Sprint customer service and told them what happened. They searched both of our names and socials and confirmed that we had never been their customer at any time. I the called back and talked to Allen Thomas of M.C. G and told him what Sprint had said. He told me that they didn't know what they were talking about and said since they had bought the debt that Sprint wouldn't have any history on us.

He then got very defensive with me and said that they would conduct and investigation and call us back. I called Sprint today and talked to their Fraud dept. And she told me that M.C.G. Was wrong that Sprint does keep all records of all customers including write offs and those sold. She advised me to report it as Fraud to the credit bureau. We now have Fraud alerts on our credit reports.

It's not the amount of money that makes us mad it is the fact that there are people out there who just pay these people and get ripped off. We have been advised to contact the Fed. Trade Comm. And the F.B.I. I want my S. S # out of there files NOW.
