I did not have a good experience at the ULTA Salon in Cedar Rapids, IA on Monday, April 19th. My stylist Shirley thought she knew better than I did what to do with my hair, she talked non-stop, it took 3 hours for a cut, color and highlight and I have short hair!
There are so many things to say about my experience:

Shirley told me several times that I need a lighter color, even tho I told her I loved the color the previous stylist at ULTA had done and the color was a little darker, Shirley said "mature women our age need to have a lighter color of hair to brighten up our faces." I can;'t tell yo how many times she said that in the 3 plus hours I was there! I ended up with lighter color, I told Shirley Ilike a lot of hightlights but she kept telling me I only needed a few highlights. When she was shampooing my hair, she remmbered in the middle of the shampoo that she needed to turn on the hairdryer, she left me with my head in the sink and the water on and it sprayed all over me, I told her I did not like razors used on my air, she told me several times that she was "a master" razor cutter, that I had probably never had a good razor cut and proceeded to start razoring my hair, I finally had to tell her to put the razor down and use the scissors. Halfway through cutting my hair, she stopped to show me a booklet ULTA had on haircuts that had been razored and kept tellimg me my hair would look so much better cut with the razor. When she FINALLY finished after more than 3 hours, she said "Don't you just love it?" I told her I didn't but I would have to get used to it at which point she said "Well, stylists can't do this legally but customers can... If you want to come in sometime, I'll mix up some of the haircolor I used on your hair and you can use a Q Tip and lighten your eyebrows because then your eyebrows will match yor hair color and the haircolor won't seem so light!"

Shirley talked non-stop... At the end of the evening I knew all about her:
1. High cholesteral 2. Type 2 diabetes 3. Her bad reaction to Lipitor 3. How hard it was when her DR. Left and she had to find another dr.
4. How overweight her daughter is 5. How her daughters ex-husband is Bi-ppolar but can't take medication for it because he is a recovering drug addict.

I could not wait to get out of there!

I called Wendy, the manager, the next day and told her about my experience. Wendy was very kind. I told Wendy I spend a lot of money at ULTA on my hair and on make up but I don't know if I'll return because of my experience with Shirley.
