Unethical practice

I was interested in purchasing a bedroom set that was on clearance and asked if they would hold it for me for 24 hours and they said yes and put a sold sign on the product. I needed (using Skype) to get get approval from my wife who is in another country. She gave me the go ahead so I went to purchase the bedroom set only to find out that they sold it to another customer. Their comment was sorry we are not allowed to hold products.
