VERIZON NEW JERSEY Settled a Lawsuit filed by the

State, Accusing It of Deceptive Business Practices for Its

FIOS Service, the State Attorney General's Office Said.

The SUIT, filed in March 09, Alleges Verizon Violated State

Advertising Regulations and the State Consumer Fraud

ACT, while Marketing and Selling FIOS, which Bundles

Television, Internet and Digital Telephone, via Fiber

Optic Cable.

It was Spurred by Customer Complaints Submitted to the

State Division of Consumer Affairs.

Incidents include not providing promotional gifts, such as

Flatscreen TVs, to Customers who Signed up for the FIOS,

And charging higher rates than Advertised for the

Service. VERIZON, based in Newark, Agreed to pay

$ 795,000.00 to the State, in Civil Penalties as well as

Attorney's Fees and Investigative Costs.

The Firm will Also Provide a $ 50.00 Gift Card, to the

1,160 Customers, who Lodged Complaints with the

Division and Allow Them to Cancel FIOS Service,

Without Paying Early Termination Fees.

The Company made no Admision of wrongdoing or

Liability as it entered into the settlement, the Attorney

General's Office Said.
