While boarding our plane in Atlanta, Georgia, we were informed that we had to check our carry on luggage due to limited space. We were approached and told this while in the "loading area" as you walk through the "tunnel/hallway" to enter the plane.

We hesitantly handed over our bags, feeling the pressure of a line of people behind us.

When we arrived in Portland, Oregon, David realized the zipper on his back pack was slightly open. After opening, he realized his Kindle Fire and laptop were missing. I checked my bag and realized my camera and charging base were gone.

Recounting the grueling process of calls, being told we didn't have a claim number after speaking with several different agents and filing a claim, and actually going to the office on our way back from out trip would take too long. Despite the claims, faxes, and paperwork I sent, there has been no response.

I believe if they make you check your baggage while boarding the plane, that they should be held responsible for items you never intended to check.
