Volaris Attempted to force payment for supposedly being over kilo limit for baggage

I was traveling with my family - a total of 7 - and we were returning from our stay in Cozumel. Our flight departed from Cancun and the Volaris rep was trying to say that our bags were 40 kilos over the limit. We did not buy anything that would significanly increase the weight of our bags. I know for a fact that I underpacked and several of our other members had brought food (diabetic bars) that were consumed and not replaced.

The rep said that we had to pay extra but were all dumbfounded as to where this mystery weight had come from. We had at most bought a few small bottles of alcohol. After a very long time that the rep kept checking, rechecking his computer for who knows what plainly stalling hoping for us to pay to expedite the process he finally gave up and printed our boarding passes. He said that we would be charged at the next connection in Guadalajara.

When we arrived at Guadalajara we were all desperately trying to reduce the weight of our bags to the supposed 15k limit per bag, per person. We gave away clothes, threw away bathroom toiletries, and changed into our heavier, warmer clothes along with carrying our jackets. We weren't hassled at this Volaris station and not a peep was mentioned about the supposed over weight baggage. My family and I will not ever do business with this airline again. Not to mention that the flight schedule was changed and we were stuck on a 5 hour layover. Never again.
