American Airlines website advertises one fare and then when you try to purchase a ticket at that fare, the transaction cannot be completed. If you call to ask why, you are told that "its like an ebay auction - there are thousands of people competing for the same fare".

Complaints to supervisors will only be more infuriating as they will call you an idiot for not "understanding" the system.
