Worldwise Vacations
Company attempts to scam the elderly with unscrupulous telemarketing

Traveling & Tourism

On 10/13/10 my elderly mother (who IS on the national do not call list) received an unsolicited phone call from Bryan Arana at Worldwise Vacations, stating she had entered a contest and won a vacation. Whe she said she had not entered a contest, he said, "You must have forgot." He then attempted to sell her a vacation package. When she said she would have to consult with her daughter, he started asking questions regarding who had control of her finances and whether or not her daughter had power of attorney. He tried to obtain her mailing address which she did not give. I have filed complaints both at the Southern Nevada Better Business Bureau (company is based in Las Vegas) and with the FTC (for being in violation of calling people who are on a do not call list.) I called the company and the person who answered the phone, Jamie, took my complaint, and when I asked to speak to the manager, she said "I'm the manager." She said she would speak to Mr Arana and she also said that she would put my mother's name and number on their do not call list. However, she never ASKED for my mom's name and number, nor did I give it to her.
This company uses unscrupulous telemarketing practices, in violation of the FTC National Do Not Call list, and I have nothing but the lowest regard for anyone who would try to exploit an elderly person and attempt to get personal information regarding their finances.
