Beware, unethical, deceptive, lie, rip off

The Fogcather Inn charged me for a second night's stay even though I cancelled five days before arriving. They have refused to refund the $200 they charged me for a second night.

We made the cancellation over the course of two phone calls with a Fogcatcher employee whose name has never been established, though best evidence is that it is Quintin. This employee assured us he had cancelled our second night's stay, when in fact the cancellation had to be made through Orbitz, the agency we used to make and pay for the stay. Rather than defer to someone who knew what they were doing, Quintin simply lied to us over the phone, and left it to be worked out when we arrived.

On our return, I began a series of phone calls with Orbitz and The General Manager of the Fogcatcher Inn, Charles Yates. Orbitz had already paid Fogcatcher. So it was up to Yates to make good on the refund.

Yates claimed to have spoken with Quintin who denied everything.

Yates's distortions, lies, and subterfuge in the process of seeking a refund was topped only by his suggestion that he hoped we'd consider staying there again!

Unbelievable.

Orbitz was helpful in trying to get a full refund, and in the end gave me a $100 credit for future use.

So, at this point, it's the principle far more than the money. I have more important things to do than ruminate over this on Ripoff web sites.

If you've ever been taken by unethical business practices, you'll boycott this hotel. It's not that great, and there are at least a dozen others of equal quality along this stretch of California coastline.
