Refused to refund our prepaid night after the electric went out

We prepaid at this resort in August for a 2 night stay. We rented a king jr suite.
Our room had a mini kitchenette, fireplace, jacizzi and patio. We came with 2 small dogs and alot of food that needed to be kept cold in the supplied refrigerator. Before a 24 hour period had ended the resort lost their electric.
We contacted the office and asked for a refund or a raincheck. They replied saying it's out of their control and there wasn't anything they could do?
We had no choice but to pack up and leave. Our dogs MINI MUFFIN & MILO
7 & 9 pounds DO NOT like 103 degree WEATHER.
We felt like we bought a car but didn't get our tires.
