I was suckered into a $500 appraisal fee for Timeshare Resale

Timeshares work well for some people and not well for others. Many of us just want out of the deal and are highly motivated to sell the timeshare but fall prey to timeshare resale scams.

In late 2006 I sought out a reputable timeshare reseller and was solicited by All Realty Services.

I was at first impressed at their (All Realty Services) claim to NOT charge any up-front fees or commissions only to be suckered into paying $500 for an "appraisal" which I have only recently come to know as virtually useless in the selling of a timeshare.

The only time you should pay a fee for an appraisal for a timeshare is NEVER. At this time it is almost impossible to appraise a timeshare that is sold on the resale market. There is not enough data complied to produce a bona fide appraisal. If you need an appraisal for a divorce or the IRS, you should make sure you are using a licensed appraiser who is risking his license to give you that appraisal.

Check their site to be made aware of other timeshare scams.

My appraisal just showed details of my unit and 3 supposedly comparative timeshare sales in the area. It was hardly worth $500. You don't even need a realtor to pull up that kind of data (and realtors gladly provide such information (market analyisis) free of charge when selling a home or land).

The appraising company is not listed in the Daytona area - and after a reverse phone search it yields an individual, not a business. Chances are that this individual is connected to All Realty Services.

Needless to say there was NEVER any evidence of their attempt to sell my timeshare. When I asked to see an actual ad or advertising, they replied that they advertise GENERALLY and then match buyers to sellers. BALONEY!

In essence, you should not have ANY "up-front" charges of any kind. If there is to be a legitimate real estate transaction, then any and all charges should be part of the closing costs.
