Anchorage Alaska Strong arm tactics at pick up, empty gas tank, rude station manage

When picking up our car, we were told we needed to upgrade to a larger car because the size we had reserved wasn't 'safe' on Alaska roads. I am from Fairbanks and declined to upgrade.

We were then told that since we would be driving such a low vehicle we really should purchase all the insurance. I again declined as I have full coverage. Girl at the counter was extremely rude. Well it's your life!

We neglected to check the gas gage when leaving the airport. You guessed it... Empty. We noticed it when we got to the hotel, after checking we went and filled the tank...$31.51.

Three and half days later, we put in $6 worth of gas. I presented both receipts to the manager, Megan, and asked to be reimbursed $31.51 as we obviously had not driven far enough to use that amount of fuel.

Her reply was that it was entirely our responsibility to check the gas tank and she could not and would not reimburse us. Her condecending attitute was disgusting.

Dollar takes no responsibility for cheating customers and we will not use them again. So sad that they are so desperate for $ that they have to cheat people to stay in business.

Thirfty Car Rental is owned by the same family in Anchorage. Do not use either unless you want to be strong armed and cheated. We will recommend to all friends, family & co-workers to avoid both of these rip-off companies.
