SLVC Continues to Rip-Off Members

As members of SLVC for twenty-five years, we have been continuously victimized by unprofessional business practices by the developer/manager/association president (William Bunch) who acted as though this were his own private club to do with as he wished. Originally, our contract promised easy tradeability through RCI, but this was made more and more difficult as transfer fees were imposed, upgrades were required, and, now, special assessments demanded of non-RCI points members.

The first impropriety occured when the association decided to encourage members to "upgrade" to interval ownership. Then, non-interval members were charged additional fees to deposit their time for exchange in RCI. Later, RCI was dropped as the exchange company, and a relatively obscure exchange company was retained. Obtaining exchanges through the new company was all but impossible for non-interval owners. Efforts to sell the membership were thwarted by the association (we had sold the membership twice, but lost the deals because of SLVC's lack or cooperation and blatant hostility toward our sales representative).

Finally, the Association decided to re-connect with RCI as an RCI Points resort, but only those interval owners and members who paid to upgrade to RCI Points could participate in an exchange. To add insult to injury, SLVC decided that the non-points members should pay for the improvements to the buildings which RCI required in order to accept SLVC as a Points destination resort. "Membership" meetings were held without providing advance agendas to the members and encouraged members to sign and submit proxies so that the Board of Directors could cast them as they saw fit. This was essentially asking for blank checks from the members.

Now, the Board of Directors is threatening (a la William Bunch) non-points members who have not paid the special RCI Points improvements assessment with legal action. These non-points members will not have access to deposit and exchange privileges. An offer was made to those non-points members to waive the special assessment if they "upgraded" to points status.

Anyone who agrees that the practices of SLVC are punitive, prejudicial and discriminatory is welcome to contact us. We would consider locating a class-action lawyer if sufficient interest is generated. It is time to put an end to the abhorrent business practices engaged in by SLVC.
