Club Sunterra, Diamond Resorts Worthless "vacation points" lead to crummy or no vacation

Traveling & Tourism

We purchased our Club Sunterra timeshare points in the fall of 2005. Since the first year of ownership we have been unhappy with this company.in 2006 we tried to go back to our alleged "home resort". There was no availability for Club Sunterra members. We could have, however, paid to stay at our "home resort". So, in essence, there was no availability for Club Sunterra members, but there was availability for the general public, who would pay cash.

This same scenario has repeated every year ever since. The one time that our family actually got a reservation, it was an exchange for another time share company's property. When we got to the exchange resort, the amenities listed in the book were not available. The Sunterra rep who made the reservation knew this, but did not inform us.

We have tried to contact the original sales person, who sold us the points, in an effort to sell them or just get rid of them. We have contacted Club Sunterra/Diamond Resorts to find out how to unencumber ourselves. Unfortunately, I now know what hell is. It is an eternal membership in Club Sunterra.

The bottom line is this. We paid approximately $13,000 for our worthless Club Sunterra points.in essence, we paid $13,000 for the privilege of paying an additional $700 per year in maintenance fees for points we can't use.

We weren't smart. Please learn from our mistake.
