Auto debited our checking account for several months under a 'medical' name before being detected

My elderly father wasn't suspicious when there were small payments to "American Mngt Sy Med Systems" but after several months, I looked into it. There is no company by that name. THe only way I was able to trace where this auto debit originated was by the phone number, which actually turned out to be the infamous FAX number to these scammers.
