Five years of ARA disregarding our complaints

We were conned into a membership with ARA in Sept. Of 1996 after answering a phone call saying we had won a trip to Las Vegas if we would come view their property at Willow Bay on Long Lake, Nine Mile Falls, WA. We never got our trip to Las Vegas because it turned out it was not free. We had to pay $170 to go.

We have paid them over $7000 from 1996 to August. Finally, I calculated how much each visit at their resorts had cost us since we had only used their facilities about 20 times in those years, once being a stay of a week. A third of the other times we rented one of their travel trailers at $16/night to stay in. It was over $300/visit. I informed ARA that we were finished giving them any more money. The salesman at the time of purchase had told us that if we decided we didn't want to use the resort anymore, we would simply not have to pay the yearly maintenance fee. At the time I told ARA in November that we would not pay them anymore, they never informed us of any procedure. But now as of July they are saying we can get out of membership only by selling our membership but we pay them the $1725 they say we owe them for overdue fees or we can write them a letter stating we want out but must have those fees paid up first.

I am turning this over to our attorney and complaining to the Attorney General's office.

I am so sorry we answered the phone that fateful day in August of 1996.
