Dishonest Vacation Homes Upped our reserved rate when our balance came due. Charging extra for 9th person in a home accomodating 12 Orlando, Florida, Davenport Area, Watersong House

My family and I live in Blue Springs, MO - suburban city just east of Kansas City, MO.in November I reserved a property that accomodates 12 people for 6-3-08 through 6-10-08. I reserved this with Patrick Blunt (hrdinternational@yahoo.co.uk). I had 6 confirmed in my party with the possibility of more family coming, which was noted in my reservation. I was told I could get the house for that week at $1065 with a $300 deposit if I reserved early. So - I did. I am to pay the balance, $1065,8 weeks prior to travel (4-08-08). I email Patrick Blunt to arrange payment of the balance and let him know my confirmed number is 9 and he writes back that he is going to have to increase my rate by $134 because we have extra people in our group.
For starters, the rates that Blunt has on greatrentals.com mention nothing about being based on number of people in one's group. The rates are clearly based on time of year, time of week, and length of stay. There is no disclaimer on the website that rates can be changed anytime, there is no information regarding rates and number of people traveling. Only that the house will accomodate 12. We have 7 adults, a six yr old, and a 3 yr old.

I questioned where the new $134 rate hike came from - he started accusing me of being unreasonable. I asked him to show me where my rates are affected by the number in my group (especially less than the house sleeps) - he said I was "twisting" things. I informed him that I have all the email correspondance to prove my side - he called my behavior appalling, dispicable, accusational, and even threatening. As if he were suggesting I was trying to take advantage of him.

I have requested that he resolve this issue and honor my original rate, provide some references, and provide me the name of his management company. I have already given him a $300 deposit and told him I will walk away and go with another property owner if this isn't resolved by April 8 - the day our balance is due. I have not received a response from him since I sent that email on 3-28-08.

I work at a Children's Hospital and my husband is a fireman. We work hard for the money we make and we try to do well for our daughters. We thought we would try something different and get a large house and travel with extended family. We haven't even departed KCI and already we distrust the experience. If there is anything that could be done to expose this guy I would appreciate it. Maybe it could prevent another family from giving there honest day's dollar to Patrick Blunt.
