Fairfield Resorts
Ripoff Discovery Vacation Plan

Traveling & Tourism

When we were on vacation in Durango Colorado we agreed to listen to the advantages of being a time share owner. We listened to their sales pitch and decided it wasn't within our budget to buy.

After many refusals and 4 hours of our vacation time they threw at us a Discovery package that we thought at the time a due-able package. Once we returned home and re-read the contract, we couldn't book a vacation of any kind until January of the next year so the prospect of planning a vacation was put on hold.

In February I started checking the Website for possible vacation spots. I found out that the Discovery package we purchased was not available at all the resorts. It was difficult to decide where to go when the places available to us were not places we were interested visiting. The once we were interested in required flying or driving halfway across the country to visit. On top of that, My husband and I both work jobs that only allow us to vacation in the summer months. That eliminated more places because that time is their prime season and are already booked.

I called the customer service line in October to see about getting reservations at the Resort in San Antonio, Texas for the first or second week in December. I was told the soonest that we could get a booking was March of the next year well after the date of expiration of the contract but they were willing to wave the deadline if I booked for the March visit. I asked about the Resort close to Pensacola, Florida where three of my Grandkids live. That resort was booked until April.

So what can I do Exactly what they are counting on. They are counting on fools like me not to be able to fulfill the contract so they make a clear profit on the cost of the Package.

I called the company again in January and the best they would do is extend the offer to be used by June. But when it takes from Oct to Mar to get a reservation where we wish to vacation, what was there to make me believe I could use the package by June.

I believe that if we had converted this Discovery Package to one of the $30,000 packages we would be able to book a reservation to use the points at our convenience instead of theirs. Has the company been more than fair, NO.

I received a letter from the company shortly after we purchased the package. It uses the terms "great value", "flexibility", and "enjoyable lifetime benefits of vaction ownership". My question is when does the flexibility begin and is it a great value to spend $1600 to be told you can't book a vacation where you wish to go.
