My youngest brother was killed in a traffic accident in North Carolina on 9/29. I traveled to North Carolina from my home in Michigan with my brother, his girlfriend, and his son. We checked in at the Marriott Fairfield Inn in Rocky Mount on 9/30, and booked our rooms for two nights.

My brother, his girlfriend, and his son checked into one double room, and paid with cash. I checked into a single room by myself, and paid with my check card. When we checked in, my brother's group was given one rate, and I was given a lower rate. When we checked out, my check card had been charged the exact same rate as my brother's group.

I called the manager, Mr. Terry Foye, and he did not return my phone call until I contacted Marriott national headquarters three days later. Then he sent me an e-mail stating that it was their policy to charge one person in a single room the same rate as three people in a double room.

I have stayed in many different hotels, and have never encountered a billing policy like that, which wasn't even mentioned when I checked in. As I said, I had been given a different rate than my brother's group.

After contacting the Better Business Bureau, Mr. Foye did finally call me by phone. When I told him that I had never seen a billing policy like that before, he called me a liar. Then he told me that he had no record of my brother checking in at the same time I did, and called me a liar again.

I contacted Marriott national headquarters again, complaining about Mr. Foye's rude behavior. The national headquarters did call me back with Mr. Foye on another line, at which time he mysteriously found my brother's check in information.

Even so, the representative repeated Mr. Foye's statement that it was their policy to charge one person the same rate as three, and refused to do anything about Mr. Foye's deceptive and rude behavior. I will never stay at a Marriott hotel again, and if anyone else does, I suggest that they use cash.
