Westgate Resort told me i had to pay panelty for cancelling timeshare on the second day of our purchase

We traveled to Orlando on June 28 and rented a car from Thrift Car Rental office. We were lured to buy a discount ticket for Sea World at the office as the ticket sales person told us that we qualified for a discount because we rented the car from their office. The agent then told us to go to Westgate resort to get the ticket, but she did NOT mention that there will be a presentation at all. When we arrived at Westgate resort to get the ticket, we were given a presentation to purchase a time share resort. After a long presentation, we were convinced to buy one with a total price of $20,000 for the right to use a two bedroom condo, one week per year. We paid a deposit of $1,500 at the time.

On the second day (June 29), we felt that we rushed into making the purchase, so we went to the Westgate resort to meet the manager, in order to cancel the purchase. We were greeted by the closing agent at the office. She told us that the company would not accept our cancellation and offered a lower price of $12,000 for a one week use, every two years time share plan. When asking about that the 10 cooling days for cancellation protected by the law, she said that the law protects the consumer as well as the company and she said that a penalty applied to the cancellation. She said that there is always money involved with the cancellation and she would not like us to lose money. She kept telling us that she is working as a neutral party for the closing and that she is not working for the company. When asking about how much money we will lose for the cancellation, she said that it could be anywhere from $500 to $5,000.

We were so worried that we could not take back our $1,500 deposit, and so we accepted the new offer.

They actively dissuaded us from turning the cancellation papers in by misrepresenting Florida law to us. They actively placed UNDUE influence over us, by telling us that a penalty would be applied to the cancellation and telling us they did not want us to lose money.

We still want to cancel the purchase now, those actions by the Westgate resort were sufficiently egregious to override the cancellation period.
