Rci
Claimed refunded money, american express says no ripoff

Traveling & Tourism

On, or about, May 24,05, I contacted RCI to cancel our membership because we had given away our timeshare and had paid RCI in advance for six years. For some reason, they said they could not refund five years (we have to maintain membership for another year because of an exchange in 2006) but would refund six years and then charge us for one year. Shortly thereafter, we got a letter from them saying our charge card had been credited for $339.

However, when the bill from American Express arrived, it showed RCI had charged our account $89 on May 24. (Apparently one year's membership fee.) There was no refund made to the account. I called RCI who assured me the refund had been made. They said call American Express to have them straighten it out. I talked to American Express who confirmed the charge but no refund. I called RCI again and told them what I had found out. They asked if I would be home all evening. I said I would. They said someone would call me shortly to straighten this out. Now, 21 hours later, I'm still waiting for their call. So, instead of getting money back, I've been charged more. It is a real ripoff!
