Robbed on their property, in front of their security cameras

Our vehicle was broken into and a brand new laptop computer was stolen in front of the parking lot security cameras at Comfort Suites in North Brunswick. It appeared to be a well set up job.

The security tape was very grainy, but you can clearly see a man in shirt and tie fitting the description of a night deskman pointing out my husband and our vehicle. As soon as my husband loads the luggage and locks the vehicle, the young man taking direction from the man in the tie walks past my husband, nods and says hello, watches him walk into the lobby to check out, walks direcly up to the car, smashes the back window where the laptop was stuck under a pile of comforters and pauses long enough to look directly into the camera and smile before walking off.

We are told by the maintenance worker and the front desk personnel that this is the second time this type of robbery has happened. We call the police, a report is taken, and the security tape is taken as evidence, although the police say the grainy tape makes it impossible to identify the robber's face.

From there, the property manager and the owners have told us a) it is our tough luck, and b) they are not going to reimburse us for the room or the $500 deductible on the laptop. After many months of fighting, they send a check to cover the broken window of the vehicle, but again state that is as far as they will go.

Choice Hotels International says Comfort Suites is a franchise, therefore there is nothing the corporate office can do and that they will not get involved. They do however suggest that I find an attorney and sue for the $500.

To date (eight months later) the property manager keeps telling me he has decided to turn it in as an insuance claim, but tells me I have no business knowing when it was filed, who he talked to or what insurance company it is. To date, we still have not received a $500 check.

On another note, the property manager refused to abide by the hotel's money back guarantee if not satisified. It is obvious from reading other's complaint's of Choice and Comfort hotels that this is common practice.

This looks very suspiciously like an inside job, and one they've gotten away with before. I think anyone who even considers staying at this hotel should think twice before risking their safety.
