Debited $6000 for flights with no booking or itinerary

I rang Expedia to book flights; they said they hadn't gone through due to an issue with my credit card being international. As such I went and booked elsewhere. I have received no itinerary from Expedia, nor does one exist, however I have now been debited $6000 from my credit card! The airline have confirmed this was by Expedia. However Expedia can't find the booking. I've sent Expedia the statement however their turnaround times are slow and their call centre in India seems to have very little information.
