I bought a waverunner from a friend and it wouldn't start so after seeing an ad for mobile watercraft mechanic I called. I should of know when I didn't hear back from the guy for a week that this was a sign. At first he showed up and took a look and then said he was going to rebuild the carbs at his shop and come back on the weekend to install. He showed up on Saturday and did just that. However, the waverunner still would not start. He told me it needed a new battery and took my $200 check for the work done and was gone. It was obvious he didn't care if it ran or not.
I installed a new battery and finally got it started but it would not accelerate all the way and would stall. I called Mark, the owner of H Marine, and he said he would come out on Monday. Of course he never showed nor did he return my phone calls. Finally I called him from a different number and he answered the call. He said he would be out in the next day or two. Again, no show. After another week of calling, he has his secretary call me and ask me to bring the waverunner to him. What happened to the mobile mechanic he advertised? Regardless, because I wanted to get the waverunner fixed with little summer remaining for the kids, I took to his shop. He was not accommodating in the least and made me and a friend of mine load and unload without lending us a helping hand. Another sign of someone who couldn't care less.
The next day he calls me and tells me it's fixed that he just had to make an adjustment. He asked me to come take the waverunner down the street from his shop and take it on a test run. I am now on day two of missing work. Plus, aren't mechanics suppose to test run the vehicles or watercraft? Regardless, I took it down the street from his shop to a boat ramp and dropped it in the water to find out right away that the problem had not been resolved. Not to mention that I live 45 minutes from his shop.
I brought back to his shop and told him that when he has it fixed and has taken it on a test run to call me. A month passes by and I get a call from his secretary telling me my waverunner is ready and the cost of the repair is almost $700. He never gave me an estimate or called me to let me know what the problem was and how much it might cost to fix. This is a 17 year old waverunner we are talking about.
He refused to work with me on the price and had the upper hand since he had my waverunner at his shop held hostage. Finally, I gave in and told him to bring to a boat ramp near where I lived and told him that as long as it worked and was fixed I would pay the amount. He had one of his mechanics bring it to me and sure enough it wouldn't even start. It took a half an hour to start. At first it ran fine so I payed the guy but sure enough the next day it resulted back to the way it was. Stalling when I would run it at a higher speed than idle.
On the invoice I saw that he charged me again to rebuild the carbs. Is the guy that stupid that he would think I would forget that I already paid him for that? Instead of wasting my time any further with this theif, I chalk it up as another expensive learning experience. Of course he ran to my bank to cash the check knowing it wasn't fixed and that it would operate fine for a short period. The guy sells boats, waverunners and yes even cars on his lot. This guy is a thief and I guarantee you that he will not back up anything he sells you. And whatever you do don't have him fix your boat or watercraft.
