We had our used Chaparral delivered to these people asking that they inspect it for sea-worthiness and delivery to Candlewood Lake. At first they were nice enough, although the service manager always seemed a bit arrogant.

He had concerns about us buying a used boat stating that sometimes there is keel damage. When it arrived my wife asked about the keel and he said it looked fine. Several weeks later they told us that the boat was fine except for the damage to the keel and the broken bathroom door. We were shocked. It turned out that one of their people broke the door by accident, but they tried to say that it was already broken. We had photos!!! They paid to have the door repaired but completely deny that they damaged the keel. It looks like it was hit with a forklift.

The damage was superficial so we paid our $482 bill and had them put it in the water. At this point we just wanted to get away from them.

Now the real problems started. I discovered that the engine soundproofing was so deteriorated that it was coating the engine with debris. A minor issue, but they missed out on probably a $400 repair. Then I found that the trim & tilt pump's bracket was completely gone. It rusted into a pile and the pump was on its side. Another missed opportunity for a repair and a huge incovenience to me. But the real kicker came when I filled the tank with gas. They failed to notice that the fuel sending unit on top of the tank (and clearly visible by opening a deck plate) was also rusted beyond believe and fuel was slushing out into the bilge. I'm glad we don't smoke!!!

Who did they have inspect this boat... Helen Keller? What did they inspect? When I wrote to the owners looking for an adjustment and maybe an apology, I got absolutely no reply. I took up the issue with my credit card company but I failed to include the opinion of another marina (as a 3rd party) so my dispute denied.

It's funny but when I told someone that I work with that I was using Xtreme Marine they told me of their horror story, but it was too late; the tranporter was on his way. Then we ran into old friends with a new Chaparral and without solicitation they told me of their own nightmare with Xtreme Marine. These people have no business being in business. Too bad too because I originally liked the owner and his wife. They seemed like nice people; but they never responded to my letter. Their service manager is a real looser and should find other work. He is sneaky and arrogant.

I do business with Echo Bay and they are such a pleasure to do business with.
