Be afraid, be very afraid

In May of a gentleman named Ron Levy came to my home for the purposes of giving me an estimate for my move from a one bedroom apartment in New Jersey to my new two bedroom town house in Sarasota, Florida...

He followed up with a letter quoting a price of "$2725.00 guarenteed (sic)"...

The date of the move was 6/28 and I had to chase them until four days before for confirmation of the date and time and for the filing of an insurance bond, as required by the condo association, where I lived...

On 6/28, the crew showed up... One foreman, who was able to converse, and five laborers, who were not... Not a word. Within the first hour, the foreman, in front of my eyes, broke a glass dining room table top, and assured me that the company would replace it, when they delivered my furniture to Florida. He signed a document stating that this would be done. When they were finished loading, he advised me that the "guaranteed" cost had gone from the price quoted to 3500.00 and that the balance was due on delivery in Florida and that delivery would be in 10 days to two weeks. He stated that this was due to the fact that I had more boxes than were originally estimated. Since all my belongings were already on the truck, I did not want to start an argument. I called the rep who had given me the estimate (guaranteed), but could not reach him and never was able to speak to him again. Nor did my calls to the head of the NJ operation, one named Yanni, ever get thru or get returned.

The movers collect the balance PRIOR to unloading...

Three weeks later, after phone calls unanswered, messages ignored, my belongings showed up and there was a glass top wrapped in cardboard...

As the two! Gentlemen were unloading, I put my hand in the cardboard wrapping and found that they were delivering the same, broken table top to me. There was no new top.in addition they had failed to wrap my dining room set, which is painted cast iron and had damaged all four chairs and the base of the table... Also there is one carton and five shelves that never showed up... I was told to file a claim. Rather than file a claim, I called my new bank, advised them of the situation, and even though it was a cashiers check, they put a stop payment on it... If you declare a check lost or stolen, your bank will accommodate you... Please remember this. My attitude was that the company took the check under false pretenses, which is theft, by not completing their end of the contract...

When I called about the table top, I was told that would deliver it within two weeks... It is now five weeks later and no table top, no calls, no nothing..

This company has a listing with the BBB of New Jersey and the BBB should be ashamed of itself for it's negligence of monitoring.

So be careful and be very afraid of the low estimates, shoddy planning, disinterest and lying nature of this company. If necessary, pay the few dollars more and save yourself a heap of aggravation...
