Tried to rip me off but I outsmarted them

I planned to move my 4 bedroom house on Friday, October 10. LOL Movers came to my home & gave me an estimate to move EVERYTHING - 4 men, 2 trucks, 9 1/2 hours at $150 per hour. I asked them to give me an estimate for just the furniture. There estimate was 3 men, 1 truck 7 1/2 hours at $115 per hours. Meanwhile, I put the bid on line with the list of furniture and every bid I received was for 3 men, 1 truck, 7 1/2 hours at $95 per hour. I decided to hire American Van Lines East since I thought they were a reputable mover. Their total estimate was $699. When the movers arrived, I showed the foreman everything I wanted moved. He then told me it was going to take 10 hours to move and $500 more than the original estimate. I would also have to pay BEFORE they unloaded the truck. This was not disclosed at the time I hired them. Needless to say, I immediately got livid. He tried to explain to me that they had to take the legs off the air hockey table and wrap all the furniture. They went out to their truck 'to call the office'. I called LOL Movers and asked them if they could move me that day. They had to see if they could get a crew together and she would call me back. LOL Movers could not move me Friday but could move me Saturday. When Jim, the salesman from American Van Lines East called me, I told him I had another moving company and to send his men home. LOL Movers called me Saturday morning and told me they could send 2 men instead of 3 but they would only charge me $80 per hour. They moved me in 7 1/2 hours and that included taking the legs off the air hockey table and wrapping all the furniture. The total price was $725 and I paid when the job was done.

What started out to be the worst moving experience of my life turned out to be one of the best. American Van Lines East thought they were going to rip me off but I turned the tables on them. Be careful when hiring a moving company to read the contract. The lease expensive rate is not the best rate.
