Jennifer Landry
EBay: landrysales, vintage. Automobile. Ads Used eBay to deprive me of personal property

Shops, Products, Services

In conjunction with eBay's caveat vendor policies (let the SELLER beware), Ms. Landry bid on a flatbed scanner of mine, requested permission to return, did not do so by legal means, and thus has my scanner and my money.

I made two errors in the eBay listing, forgetting the lid mounting screws were absent and the SCSI cable was left out of the box. When Ms. Landry requested a refund, I immediately agreed, realizing my mistakes. Almost before I could finish typing my acceptance of her terms, she sent me a very curt message, and opened a "not as described" case against me. Why?

EBay informed me in no uncertain terms that I had better immediately refund both the winning bid amount and the shipping, threatening negative consequences if I did not comply. I did so, and waited for the return of the scanner, but nothing.

I sent a message to Ms. Landry, who informed me that she sent the scanner "return to sender" and no tracking information. The USPS does not allow "return to sender" for parcels that have been opened. Their policy is to return it to the addressee. I remember having to pay full postage plus the tracking fee to return one of my items as proof of the return. Seems that Ms. Landry doesn't have to.

I contacted eBay customer support and asked for a chargeback against her PayPal account. EBay was lightning quick to do that to me a few years ago—the first time they allowed a buyer to use them to steal something from me. They told me that they can't do anything because I sent a "voluntary" refund. What part of responding to threats makes it voluntary?

I urge caution when doing business with Ms. Landry, who does business on eBay as "landrysales" and "vintage. Automobile. Ads." Someone who can use eBay to deprive me of my property AND money is far smarter than me.
