Mediacomtoday When requested to cancel internet service Mediacom all of a sudden wants to charge me $300 for a cable box

So, today i called Mediacom to cancel internet service with them because i received a better offer that they cannot match from Centurylink. I talked to one representative and was transfered to another one. The 2nd representative told me it will take 7 days to cancel the service and that i also have a digital cable box that is not returned. I told her that I did not have cable with Mediacom since 2009 and that all parts were returned to them. She said she will open up a ticket in order for the location to check if it was returned. I asked hwo much it would cost me if they cannot find it, and she told me $300.

This is stealing, I returned the box either in person or mailed it out with their return lable - I cant recall exactly because it was a long time ago. I asked her how all of a sudden they are charging me for this box. She said they do not keep charging me for the fee because they assume I will return it. Now, that sounds like BS, why would a company assume I will return it and if I do not return it they will lose on revenue that cable box would have generated for the time being.

I feel like I am getting ripped off here because I am canceling service with them and they cannot do anything about it. I hope that this is a lesson learned for everyone that reads this report. Keep your receipts if you return any equipment of theirs.
