The Bridal Salon At Macys
Ripped off, substandard customer service ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

On March 31, I entered The Bridal Salon at Macy's in Cherry Hill, NJ. With help of the saleswoman Janet, I found the dress I had wanted. The 12 were a little big and the size 14 was too large.

Back at the counter, Janet pulled out the sizing chart for the bridal gowns by Demetrios. I wanted to order the size 12 but Janet said absolutely not, that it would not be in my best interest and told me to order the size 14. I am not seamstress and I do not sell dresses for a living so I believed her. I was told that my dress would probably not need alterations, but if I did, side seams would cost between $35-65, and if ANY alterations were completed at the store, pressing was included free of charge.

My mother and I showed up for my appointment 45 minutes early on August 19. The young blonde at the desk told me I had to leave and to come back because the seamstress was busy and I could hang around the store. The tone in her voice and her overall attitude was appalling.

While Jean, the seamstress, was pinning this gown that is entirely too large for me, I looked down her hands covered in her own blood. I take a look down at my gown and there is BLOOD smeared on my brand new $1220.00 dress. She tells me that it is OK and that she will get it out later.

After all the work was pinned she got the gown off of me, and wrote up the work slip and quoted the side seams to be $125. I had the alterations sheet with me, and this differed significantly. My mother and I overheard the receptionists and Janet the sales clerk badmouthing customers. They used profanity calling one customer a f*ing B*h, and she was lucky that they didn't call security.

Around 11:30am on Saturday August 21, I called and spoke to the store manager Robin Portnoy. She offered no apology, said that I didn't know what it was like to work with brides day in and out, thusly condoning the badmouthing by the staff; that I was "lucky" the blood came out of my dress and that it happens all the time (?), and she would be happy to pull the pins out of the dress and I could pick it up at any time and take it elsewhere.

I was horrified! I have since contacted the BBB, the regional manager of the bridal Salon at Macy's - Judy Rosuteck, Demetrios Bridal corporate - Maria, the Macy's department store manager - Tracy Howers, in which the Bridal Salon at Macy's resides (contracted out by Demetrios) and am looking to contact the owner, a Mr. Alex Cutrone.
