I called Lufthansa and KLM in Dubai and learned this is simply not true. Pets can still travel as EXCESS BAGGAGE with owners on same plane. If a pet travels cargo, one must then hire a cargo agent to handle all the documentation. This is where pet shipping can become very costly. However, if you opt to ship your pets as excess baggage, for example, a flight from Dubia via Munich or Frankfurt to D.C. Would cost you $200 plus the vet fees at Dubai Airport for clearance. Secondly, this website sells "pet passports" and "other important documents/forms" listed by airline for $9.95 plus shipping/handling. Pet owners beware - this is NOT an official document. It is NOT required or accepted when shipping pets. What you need are valid certificates of immunizations from the vet and any other paperwork to be completed by the vet at the airport in a particular country. Do not believe you must use cargo and hire a handler who promises to follow your pet's itinerary every step of the way. They have no way of accessing such information and many of them know nothing of or care about animals. Don't spend money on useless forms.
