Catnapper
Ripoff, replaced faulty sofa with mismatched piece

Shops, Products, Services

I purchased a matching 'motion sofa' and recliner from Furniture Outlet in Anniston, Alabama. I was very proud of my new furnture, as this suite was the first brand new matching set I had ever owned.

Within a few months, the nap of the fabric began to peel off like an orange peel at all the seams on the sofa. The recliner was fine. I called the retailer about the problem and they were extremely cooperative. They contacted Catnapper. Catnapper told them they would send someone out to check out the situation. I made numerous calls to Furniture Outlet, and they, in turn, called Catnapper.

After 16 months, they sent a man out who told me he would have to recover the sofa. Again, I heard nothing else until I put pressure on the lady at Furniture Outlet. I hated to have to bother her, as she had done all she could do to assure my satisfaction. Finally, after 6 more months, she called me back and told me that the fabric used to cover my sofa was no longer available. The spokesperson from Catnapper told her to tell me to come to her store and pick out another sofa to replace the faulty one.

Sounds good, does't it? A brand new sofa for one I had had for over 2 years. Well... When I got there, there was nothing in the store that matched my recliner. She, the lady at the store, told me she would contact Catnapper and tell them the problem.

The next day she called me and said the person from Catnapper had told her they would send me an appropriate sofa within the week. Sure enough, in just a few days, the delivery truck pulled up, the workers came into my home and removed my cranberry with faint almost undiscernable gray stripes from my den and replaced it with a bright maroon sofa, of completely different body style, with bright mauve, baby blue and sea-foam green series of stripes! The sofa had a much larger frame than the one I had. It dwarfed my recliner.

I called Catnapper directly to complain. I felt that they should replace my recliner, also, sinse I had purchased a matching set. I was informed that I had received a $1200 sofa to replace a $600 one. I told him, great, now I have a $1200 TURD sitting in the middle of my den! This sofa has a flip down panel in the middle with vibrators, heating units, cupholders and a freaking telephone in it. My old one did not have this JUNK. I thought they could at least give me a good discount on a matching recliner or loveseat, but they let me know that what they had done is customary. It didn't matter that my pride and joy matching den suit no longer matched. I had to pinch and save to buy the matching recliner.

I wouldn't recommend Catnapper to anyone, not only because of the quality of their furniture, but the service after the sale, also.
