I was contacted today by a man claiming to be an advocate for the Boys and Girls club, collecting points from ECR INC.in the form of magazine subscriptions. I signed up hoping to help make a contribution and help out the community. However a few things struck me as strange, first the gentleman did not give pricing and when I asked he said it depended on the magazine I chose, the total he tried selling was $95! Sufice it to say I talked him down to a much lower price.

Not even 5 minutes after he left another gentleman came in with the same packet, this time claiming to be a retired american soldier looking to collect points for his vetrans house. I let the man finish before informing him that I had just purchased from a "boys and girls club" rep. And asked if ECR was some kind of charitable organization or if it just sold magazines and these were sales spiels.

He got very flustered and told me that they could pick who the points were for? And left in a hurry. The entire ordeal left me feeling scammed and annoyed that people would use the organizations to solicite money. A call was placed to the phone number on the order form; I have tried the number about 15 times and all I get is a busy signal or a disconnected tone. I cancelled my check thru the bank ($30 fee) and can only hope these crooks are caught before they exploit any more money in the name of trusted organizations. What a RIPOFF!
