Slamming, slammed

IGS has slammed me twice now. ("Slammed" means they signed themselves up as my gas supplier without my consent.) This is illegal and subject to fines from our state's Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. IGS sends letters soliciting service and offering lower rates, but I throw them away. I work for a utility company myself and am familiar with the "fine print" that goes with these supposedly good rates. I have zero interest in switching.

Last year, they illegally slammed me, and I called to remove them. They threatened to fine me for ending my "contract" early until I pointed out I'd never signed up for this contract and they had done it illegally. They removed themselves from my bill and I was back to my standard gas supplier.

With my most recent bill that I received yesterday, I see they are back. Again, against my wishes. Like I said, I work for a utility company so I know that a lot of people are scammed into switching when they receive solicitations in the mail and respond to them without knowing the details and the "catch." I hear these stories all day, mostly from the elderly, and I am not one of those people. I know the deal, and I throw away anything I receive offering to set me up with an alternate supplier. There is no way I signed up for IGS, yet here they are again on my bill which is much higher than usual. I am not happy.

I have filed a complaint with the PUCO because I know they take these things seriously. The utilities industry is very highly regulated. IGS will be fined for doing this. I encourage all gas customers to check their bills and make sure they weren't "slammed." If you were, please complain so we can stop IGS from doing this to people.
