Ripoff When upgrading plans, make sure all included options get 'turned on'

A verizon rep told me that by changing to a more updated calling plan I would receive better options/service for the same price. I agreed to change and she upgraded me on the computer.

I had received 1500 weekend minutes/free nationwide calling on my old plan and would receive the same on the new.

I did not pay attention to my bills for several months until I realized that I was not receiving detailed billing statements anymore. When I received the first detailed statement, a $19 dollar long distance weekend call was being charged. When I called customer service to complain/query, I was told that the option had not been 'turned on'. I asked if the service was the same as my old service which included free long distance/1500 weekend minutes and they said yes but it needed to be turned on.

Soooo, apparently all the options they advertise with their plans, free long distance, caller ID, voice mail etc., must be 'turned on' and if you don't notice it, they happily bill you for the service that you are already supposedly paying for in your plan fee.

They quickly deducted the cost from my bill but I am wondering how many others are getting ripped off in this way. If you don't request a detailed billing statement, you will have no idea this is happening.

Anyone want to launch yet another class action lawsuit against Verizon?
