Careless, negligent, stubborn, arrogant

After a search I hired this company to do my large local move (about 5 miles) after diligence revealed proper licensing and no negative reports I could find. I'm very sorry I did and cannot, based on my experience, explain the lack of negative reports although I understand the crew leader was new to them. The move was scheduled for May 28, the Saturday before Memorial Day & we were the last move before the Holiday. We had discussed my move from a 5-bedroom 3000 sf house with a basement to a 3-bedroom bonus room with no basement but an accessible attic. I told the company that my previous move into the house took 2 trucks more than 1 trip.

The 3-man crew arrived in one 24' truck close to on time & looked around & began complaining there was too much to move & they could not complete the move that day. I called the office & after arguing we got 2 more movers on the way but still only one truck. All during the move the foreman was rude and contentious & all the crew seemed concerned with was getting done. They left items behind & unloading was a nightmare with bringing in boxes first and piling them wherever without concern for instructions, clear instructions on the boxes or the marking "FRAGILE." When it came time for furniture there was no where to put it because they had boxes piled where I told them to put furniture; we were left with a mess! It took 6 of us the entire next day to just get things where they should have been put in the first place.

As soon as the 2nd truck was empty the foreman was filling out paperwork in their rush to leave without asking if there was anything else they could do. He did the math wrong & we were overcharged (refunded later) & the crew left right away. They had been talking about a party they wanted to get to and some ladies that would be there.

Upon inspection we discovered several things in boxes that had been carefully wrapped in bubble wrap & box marked "Fragile" were broken. The movers had failed to wrap any mattresses as is standard practice for movers and a brand new California King mattress had been snagged and dragged across the snag & the cover torn because of negligence; of course the movers did not mention their negligent damage to me. An antique cedar chest that had HANDLES was lifted by the lid & the lid torn off its hinges; this negligent & careless damage was not mentioned either.

I got Jeanine Wirks, on the phone & when I described this travesty of a move to her she appeared concerned and asked what I would like to do. After some consideration & speaking to my wife I called back & said I wanted $300 back; the moving fee was $1500, and she agreed to send us a check that I never saw. She "applied it" to the repair of the negligent & careless damages. Accidents happen but these damages were not accidents.

Avoid using this company like the plague. The service is awful, they do not keep their word, & they are arrogant. This was my third move with movers in the past 10 years & easily the worst.
