Taking advantage of the elderly

My elderly grandmother had her purse stolen in 2004 and asked her bank, SunTrust, Bank, to close her checking account. They did not close the account in as she had asked, and many checks were written on her account by a thief. The bank closed the account three years later and opened a new one for my grandmother. Why in 2007 and not in 2004? When they opened the account in 2007 they opened it in just her name& without the beneficiary. My grandmother informs me about this problem and I advise her to close her checking account with this bank because they did not follow her request in 2004 and she lost a lot of money. When she tried to close the account, in the bank employee refused to close her account as she asked. My grandmother has not been labeled incompetent, and should have been able to open and close her bank account at anytime. However, she has provided me Power of Attorney just in case she ever needed support, and I carried it with me. I had to provide a copy of my Power of Attorney and demand that the bank employee immediately close the account as my grandmother had asked. I also asked for a copy of her last two statements and the bank employee abruptly said her copy machine was broken, but the teller from behind the counter told her she could print them using hers. We were not provided the copies of the last two statements on this day and ended up calling the police to get my Power of Attorney back. Four police officers came to the scene and recovered my Power of Attorney from the bank employee. My grandmother went to the doctor, afterward, with her blood pressure high enough to have a stroke. This was uncalled for and very unnecessary. What if my grandmother had died this day due to this unnecessary treatment that upset her greatly?
