Collectors Came to Home Over Missed Payments After Hard Times

A while back about a few months ago. We purchased on a credit contract a few items from Conns.
Then we were making payments on to, e for a while
Then we fell into hard times and have not been able to make any payments for 6 months
so they kept calling 2 or 3 times a day
Until tonight
what they did tonight is enough to scare me for the rest of my life.
They came to my home and started to harass me for payment
and of course there is nothing I can do as I was reading the stuff on here and everyone saying I don't have any rights and should have paid on time.
So now they are harassing me at home
is there anything I can do and is this legal? I wish I can afford an attorney but I cannot, besides based kf what I read here I would lose anyway?
