Unauthorized Telephone Billing, 900 Numbe

Champion Communications sent a bill to my business for $10 stating that we dialed 900-988-2288, BB&T's Banking Verification number. The event did not appear on our service provider's billing. I protested the charge with Champion on 3 occasions and got nowhere. As there are BB&T's in numerous states it is impossible to verify. I have googled the number and checked 900 directories and found no listing for 900-988-2288. Some of the facts:

Champion could tell me the time and date the alleged call was made but not how long it lasted.

Champion threatens to take "FURTHER ACTION" if payment not received including a $25.00 late fee

From my research one of two things triggered this event. First the number was accidentally dialed. If that was the case a legitimate company would drop the charge upon request. The other more likely scenario is that of an outright scam. Regardless, I highly recommend to anyone that reads this to immediately call your telephone service provider and request a block to be placed on your line for all 900 numbers.
